A  Digital Strategist at Firefly Partners works with clients to understand their digital needs, goals, opportunities, and challenges and develop results-focused digital strategies for clients, manages associated budgets, timelines, and scope of work as needed A DS builds strong, collaborative relationships with clients and maintains those relationships over time. Working closely with designers, developers, and digital marketing specialists, the Digital Strategist ensures what is delivered to clients is of the highest quality in addition to ensuring their own digital strategy work is of the highest caliber.  The DS stays abreast of digital strategy, marketing,, tools, and technology trends (especially those specific to non-profits) that may impact Firefly’s clients and applies that knowledge to daily work. 

This position is responsible for the following areas:

  • Developing and executing results-focused digital strategies for clients
  • Staying apprised of and analyzing digital marketing and communication trends and tools
  • Nurturing long-term client relationships
  • Executing production on assigned projects
  • Working with other team members on project budgets, scopes, and timelines

Essential Functions

  1. Facilitate discovery sessions with clients to identify their digital needs, goals, opportunities, and challenges. Help cross-functional teams develop solutions that are true to the organization’s brand, goals, and supporter needs.
  2. Develop strategic plans and tactical campaigns. Align client and Firefly resources, as needed, to meet established digital goals.
  3. Measure and evaluate the success of individual campaigns as well as strategic plan outcomes. Evaluate the results of campaigns and appropriately present results and recommendations to clients and internally.
  4. Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients and maintain those relationships over time. Adapt communication styles and methods to build trust among clients and partners.
  5. Execute on production and implementation of strategic recommendations and plans (technical and marketing), including but not limited to Google Analytics setup and optimization, Google Tag Manager deployment, and Data Studio dashboard builds and strategic insights, email list optimization, digital ad creation, and content creation
  6. Collaborate with project managers, designers, developers, production specialists, and other subject matter experts to collectively or independently produce deliverables that are of the highest quality.
  7. Proactively recognize and assess client and team needs and prepare potential solutions to meet those needs. Where necessary, lead on the documentation and implementation of solutions.
  8. Empower clients to think strategically, developing results-oriented project plans to achieve their goals in the areas of website design and development, communication, fundraising, events, and other areas of digital marketing.
  9. Stay abreast of digital marketing trends and technologies that affect nonprofits. Ensure that the knowledge and any appropriate actions are regularly shared with other team members. Apply relevant knowledge to current and potential client engagements.
  10. Work closely with sales, marketing, and account management team members to craft compelling stories that promote Firefly’s work to prospective and current clients.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Required Education and Experience

  1. A minimum of three years of digital strategy experience, preferably at an agency or large nonprofit.
  2. Three to five years’ experience working with or for nonprofit organizations or in an agency setting
  3. 2+ years of experience working with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
  4. 2+ years SEO optimization experience
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop plans and oversee the execution of these plans within a cross functional team.
  6. Demonstrated ability to track and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  7. Demonstrated experience working in nonprofit marketing tools, open-source CMS platforms, or nonprofit database tools.
  8. Similar positions or transfer of skills are considered in lieu of the specific experiences or job titles above.

Preferred Experience

  1. Experience working in SEMRush, Google Data Studio, Luminate, Engaging Networks, and Wordpress
  2. In Google Tag Manager: experience creating custom html tags, advanced knowledge of using the datalayer for tag deployment
  3. Web strategy experience
  4. 2+ years of freelance or agency experience

This position requires occasional travel, both local and throughout the United States as a very small overall percentage of your time. Contingent on CDC guidelines.



Type and Expected Work Hours:  Exempt salaried position ($62K-$70K range). Firefly offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience plus benefits including a generous contribution to health care, dental, vision, HSA, and 401K packages. PTO and sick days that renew each year, 11 holidays, full tech setups, and monthly internet stipends. We’re an employee-centric company and working for Firefly means we are invested in your career development and total wellbeing. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
