As Accessibility Advocate at Firefly Partners, this person works with clients and staff to understand their digital needs, goals, opportunities, and challenges and how to increase the accessibility of these goals. This person develops results-focused accessibility strategies for clients and staff and manages associated budgets, timelines, and scopes of work as needed. This person builds strong, collaborative relationships with clients and maintains those relationships over time. Working closely with designers, developers, and digital marketing specialists, the Accessibility Advocate ensures what is delivered to clients is of the highest accessible quality. This person stays abreast of digital marketing, accessibility, and nonprofit technology trends that may affect Firefly’s clients and applies that knowledge to daily work.

This position is responsible for the following areas:

  • Staying apprised of and analyzing digital marketing trends and technologies and their digital accessibility
  • Developing and executing accessibility-focused digital marketing strategies for clients by upskilling and educating our internal team and the client
  • Developing and maintaining long-term client relationships
  • Managing budgets, scopes, and timelines as needed
  • Bringing accessibility planning, goals and milestones to the greater team, following up on implementation and accountability
  • Tracking growth of internal accessibility measures

Essential Functions

  1. Facilitate discovery sessions with staff and clients to identify their digital accessibility needs, goals, opportunities, and challenges. Help cross-functional teams develop solutions that are true to the organization’s brand, goals, and supporter needs.
  2. Develop strategic plans and tactical campaigns. Align client and Firefly resources, as needed, to meet established digital goals. Work with key strategic customers and partners to better understand accessibility and inclusive design needs and issues and help find and address solutions to meet those accessibility issues and needs. Promote, evangelize, and advocate accessibility and WCAG 2.0/2.1 across Firefly by developing accessibility training materials, and leading and conduct training sessions within the organization.  
  3. Work with other accessibility designers, user researchers, product managers, product designers and software developers to help create a more inclusive and accessible experience for Firefly clients and staff. Help designers create inclusive and accessible prototypes, annotations, wireframes, or mock ups, and help design accessibility and inclusive design features. Applying lived experience as a person with a disability to increase the inclusiveness of the products, services, and deliverables generated.
  4. Build strong, collaborative relationships with clients and maintain those relationships over time. Adapt communication styles and methods to build trust among clients and partners.
  5. Empower clients to think strategically, developing results-oriented project plans to achieve their goals in the areas of website design and development, communication, fundraising, events, and other areas of digital marketing.
  6. Stay abreast of digital marketing trends, accessibility guidelines, and assistive technologies that affect nonprofits. Ensure that the knowledge and any appropriate actions are regularly shared with other team members. Apply relevant knowledge to current and potential client engagements.
  7. Work closely with sales, marketing, and account management team members to craft compelling accessibility stories that promote Firefly’s work to prospective and current clients. Be the spokesperson for our inclusive and accessible efforts to the greater public. We are looking for someone who would love to write, speak, and present at events on the topic of digital accessibility and inclusion.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 30 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


This position requires occasional travel, both local and throughout the United States. 

Required Education and Experience

  1. A minimum of two years of accessibility-focused program or project management experience, preferably at an agency or large nonprofit
  2. Three to five years’ experience working with or for nonprofit organizations
  3. Demonstrated ability to establish plans and oversee the execution of these plans within a cross functional team
  4. Demonstrated ability to track and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  5. Demonstrated experience advocating for accessibility justice through public speaking, education, thought leadership or social media channels.
